Jazz in Bess
school project
Project Overview

This project was developed as part of a school assignment for the Visual Design program (SSSAA 24–25).

It represents an independent design proposal created for Jazz in Bess and is NOT AN OFFICIAL COLLABORATION or commissioned work. The project is presented as a conceptual redesign prototype.

Objective

The goal was to rethink and enhance the digital communication ecosystem of Jazz in Bess, a cultural association dedicated to promoting jazz music.

The redesign aimed to:
• Create a more contemporary and emotionally engaging visual language
• Improve usability and content accessibility
• Increase online visibility
• Strengthen the coherence between artistic identity and digital presence

The project focused on making jazz culture more accessible and appealing to both long-time enthusiasts and new audiences.

Strategy

The strategy was based on partially redesigning key digital touchpoints while maintaining a connection with the existing brand identity.

The assignment included:
• Redesigning selected festival detail pages (including a proposal for “Jazz Winter Meeting”)
• Developing a new page to present the venue
• Creating social media templates for events and general communications
• Designing a digital poster for the festival
• Developing a visual identity for external collaborations and summer events

The approach balanced visual impact (large imagery, emotional appeal) with improved structure and readability.

Scope&Presentation

As this project involves an external cultural association and was developed in an academic context, only selected design proposals and one website page are showcased in this portfolio.

The full project documentation and extended materials are available upon request for clients or employers.

Poster

The poster was developed as a flat illustration using three color tones, keeping the visual language minimal and direct.

The composition features iconic jazz instruments, reduced to simple and recognizable shapes.

The decision to work with a limited color palette reflects the essence of jazz itself: with just a few chords, something powerful and beautiful can emerge. In the same way, the poster relies on simplicity to achieve strong visual impact.

Rather than creating a single visual, the concept was developed as a series of variations. Repetition with subtle differences introduces rhythm and visual richness — one poster communicates, but a collection builds identity.

The visual is built around a circular composition divided into two halves, inspired by the idea of balance and duality.
Inside the circle, two stylized piano shapes represent a key symbol of jazz culture.

The first half uses black and white, reflecting the core color palette of the Jazz in Bess website and representing events hosted inside the venue.

The second half introduces brighter tones — blue and yellow — evoking a summer atmosphere and identifying collaborations and outdoor events.

The composition recalls the balance of a yin-yang concept: two distinct yet complementary parts representing the dual nature of Jazz in Bess activities.

Event Page Design

The current Jazz in Bess website uses a very simple structure and relies mainly on a black and white color palette.
For the event page, I wanted to keep the idea of a two-color system while reinterpreting it using actual colors instead of black and white.

The color choices were carefully considered to ensure good readability, maintaining strong contrast between text and background elements.

The goal was to create a layout that remains simple while feeling more contemporary and distinctive.

Jazz is often visually associated with black and white aesthetics, but festivals feel more vibrant and dynamic. For this reason, the design introduces color while still maintaining a restrained and minimal palette.

For this project I developed an interactive prototype using Figma, designed to simulate the navigation and user experience of the proposed pages. This portfolio showcases only one of the festival pages created as part of the project.

The full prototype includes both desktop and mobile versions. For the sake of clarity and brevity, it is not fully presented here but is available upon request.

Clients or employers interested in the complete prototype video are welcome to contact me for access.
